Great Fish Fry in November!
Tue. Nov 17th 2009

This past fish fry was one of our best this year! We served over 500 people in four hours. Thank you to each and every one of you who supported us this month. Money raised from this fish fry will be paying for the education and equipping of the eight new volunteers we have signed on within the past two months.

Lascassas has experienced a very exciting 2009. Support from our community has been a very instrumental part of it. Because your support, we have some of the best-trained and best-equipped firefighters in Middle Tennessee. Our commitment has always been to provide the best fire protection service to our communities we can. Your support has enabled us to grow in membership numbers of both firefighters and support personnel. I am extremely proud of the men and women of the Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department and the hard work they put forth EVERY DAY to provide this service to your community.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the past year. We will not be hosting a fish fry in December so our volunteers can concentrate on their families. We look forward to seeing you in January, though.

October was a busy month for us. National Fire Prevention Month allowed us many opportunities to visit several classrooms and schools to talk about fire prevention. Keep checking back as we will be adding pictures to our picture gallery from these presentations.

And last, but not least, Lt. Andy Atkisson will be leaving our department after serving as Lieutenant over Driver Training and inventory control. Lt. Atkisson has served our organization faithfully for many years and will be truly missed. We wish Lt. Atkisson well in his future endeavors. We plan to announce the promotion of a new Lieutenant around the first of December.

Thank you for your time and commitment to our community.

-Trey

Burn Permits

Burning permits focus attention on the safe use of fire. From October 15 through May 15, anyone starting an open-air fire within 500 feet of a forest, grassland, or woodland must by law secure a burning permit from the Division of Forestry. Permits are not required for burning in containers such as a metal barrel with a ½" mesh screen cover. Anyone needing to burn within an incorporated city should contact city authorities about any local burning ordinances. Many towns and cities have their own burning regulations that supersede the Division of Forestry’s burning permit program.

Permits are free of charge and may be obtained by calling the phone number listed below for the county in which the burning will be done. Burning permits are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except on holidays. Permits may be obtained in advance for weekends and holidays.

The number to call to obtain a burn permit for Rutherford County(800) 337-3157.  On the day of your burn call the Rutherford County Dispatch Center at 615-898-7770 and advise them of your permit number.

The number to call to obtain a burn permit for Wilson County (800) 337-3157.

Please be safe with fire!
